Alissa's Thoughts

Up

These are some thoughts written by mission team member Alissa C.

There was something about those Puerto Rican angels.. Their warm eyes, joyful smiles, and loving arms were a gift from heaven. Grateful we were for the many waves received while putting in a good days work. Goodness was their help. Their joyfulness shown through like a candle burning in the darkest of nights. You could feel His house moving as all were dancing, singing, and lifting their hands in praise to the Lord. It was like being a witness of the Holy Spirit who was touching people’s souls. You could sense that they were living for something greater than anything of this world. In a way, they had more than we have. We turn our love toward possessions and money and they don’t have that. Therefore, they put their love in people and most of all, God. We should learn from them just as they had learned from us.

Verses &

Galatians 5:22-26

Ephesians 4:17-23

Ephesians 5:1-2

1. But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no conflict with the law.

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there. If we are living now by the Holy Spirit, let us follow the Holy Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Let us not become conceited, or irritate one another, or be jealous of one another.

2. With the Lord’s authority let me say this: Live no longer as the ungodly do, for they are hopelessly confused. Their closed minds are full of darkness; they are far away from the life of God because they have shut their minds and hardened their hearts against him. They don’t care anymore about right and wrong, and they have given themselves over to immoral ways. Their lives are filled with all kinds of impurity and greed.

But that isn’t what you were taught when you learned about Christ. Since you have heard all about him and have learned the truth that is in Jesus, throw off your old evil nature and your former way of life, which is rotten through and through, full of lust and deception. Instead, there must be a spiritual renewal of your thoughts and attitudes. You must display a new nature because you are a new person, created in God’s likeness—righteous, holy, and true.

3. Follow God’s example in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love for others, follow the example of Christ, who loved you and gave himself as a sacrifice to take away your sins. And God was pleased, because that sacrifice was like sweet perfume.
